Local Business

Lighthouse Software Development Limited believe that lack of technological expertise should not be a barrier to allowing individuals, community groups, charities and startup businesses to get online and operate effectively in the 21st Century.

We have a broad range of skills and experience that people and organisations like this so often need and so we are delighted to be able to pass on that knowledge.

Examples of how we have helped include the following:

Appledore Book Festival

Our director David Stevenson is a Trustee of Appledore Book Festival, a registered charity that organises an annual literary festival to raise funds to provide books and visiting children’s authors to local schools.

Our involvement with the festival means that we are in an excellent position to provide day-to-day IT expertise and assistance, including

  • maintaining the festival’s website
  • managing the organisation’s admin functions in Google Workspace
  • overseeing and configuring a large and complex ticketing system.

With almost 100 events every year and thousands of tickets sold, the effective use of technology is key to the success of the festival and we are proud to play our part.

The Appledore Bakery

Lighthouse Software Development are delighted to help out with the website creation and ongoing support and maintenance for The Appledore Bakery, a charming local business specialising in hand-baked sourdough bread and cakes.

Number Twenty, Appledore

When the 2020 pandemic struck and non-essential shops were forced to close their doors, this charming gift shop in Market Street in Appledore asked for our help to allow them to start selling online.

Using a combination of technologies including some bespoke, self-hosted code, we were able to integrate their existing Point of Sale system with an e-commerce solution provided by Ecwid, and provide help and advice on configuring the site to suit the particular requirements.

The result has been a successful launch of Number Twenty’s online presence which has continued to build.

Torridge Pilot Gig Club

During the 2020 lockdown we undertook the complete overhaul and rewrite of the website for Torridge Pilot Gig Club in Appledore. Built using WordPress, the site contains a number of improvements over the previous website and several enhancements over standard WP functionality.

It is fully responsive and displays well on all types and sizes of screens. Key features include:

  • A members’ area where club members can access internal documents and resources
  • A Knowledge Base with several different types of pages, documents and notes
  • Instagram integration to power the site’s gallery page

We also worked with the club to enhance their social media presence, enabling cross-posting over multiple streams at once, and the implementation of an all-new online membership system powered by Member Mojo

Lighthouse Software Development Limited provide the hosting and domain name registration for the website, and manage the admin functions of the organisation using Google Workspace.
